APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a Memorandum
of Understanding with the City of Sunnyvale to pay the County $30,000 annually for access
to the ARIES Integrated Justice System for the purpose of sharing and integrating criminal
justice information, commencing on July 1, 2010 and waiving the first year payment, as
recommended by the Sheriff-Coroner.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No County Costs. 100% Revenue of $30,000 per year beginning in fiscal year 2011-2012
until terminated.
BACKGROUND:
The County has been working in cooperation with other Bay Area jurisdictions as part of the
Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). The 2009 UASI grant provided through the US
Department of Homeland Security, for which the County is a subrecipient under the City of
San Francisco (fiscal agent), is funding the expansion of the Automated Regional
Information Exchange System (ARIES) criminal justice information system. The
Memorandum of Understanding provides for the

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
City of Sunnyvale to have access to ARIES for the purpose of sharing and integrating
criminal justice information with other participating Agencies. The MOU sets forth the
governing policies and procedures for the use of ARIES by participating agencies, to
include maintenance and responsibility of the information within the system. ARIES has the
capability to make potential linkages between law enforcement information from crime
incidents, criminal investigations, warrants, arrests, bookings, paroles and other pertinent
information. Participating agencies law enforcement and homeland security efforts will
greatly benefit from the shared information.
