ATTESTED: July 13, 2010 David J. Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: KATHERINE SINCLAIR, Deputy cc: C. 44 To:Board of Supervisors From:Mary N. Piepho, District III Supervisor Date:July 13, 2010 Contra Costa County Subject:REAPPOINTMENTS TO THE ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS ADVISORY COMMITTEE BACKGROUND: The Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board was created in 1992 by the Board of Supervisors. Their mission is to assess family and community needs regarding treatment and prevention of alcohol and drug abuse problems, and to report the findings and recommendations to the Health Services Department, the Board of Supervisors and the community that they serve. The Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board is comprised of twenty-one members (20 members ans one alternate). Members shall have a professional interest in, or personal commitment to, alleviating problems related to drug abuse and inappropriate alcohol use in their community. The alternate member can sit and vote for any of the five At-large seats on the Committee. If a vacancy occurs, the alternate will automatically assume the vacant At-large seat. The membership breakdown is as follows: Three representatives to be nominated by each member of the Board of Supervisors. Five at-large members to be nominated by the Internal Operations Committee to insure geographic, racial and ethnic diversity on the Advisory Board. One alternate member to be nominated by the Internal Operations Committee. Members serve for three year terms. Supervisor Piepho advertised for the open seats. Applications were accepted and reviewed, and the recommendation to appoint the above individuals was then determined.
