APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fire Chief of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection
District, or designee, to execute a contract with RJN Incorporated (dba H & N Enterprises)
in an amount not to exceed $300,000 annually for weed abatement services, for the period
July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Annual cost of the abatement contract is estimated at $300,000. All work orders processed
under this contract would be billed back to the responsible property owner in the form of a
lien on the property with funds recovered through the property tax collection process.
BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District notifies property owners within the Fire
District of fire hazards related to dry grass, weeds, combustible rubbish and other fire
hazards identified on their property. The property owner is given a specified amount of time
to remove the hazard. If they do not comply, a work order is given to the Fire District
contractor to do the work. This contract will provide the Fire District with the means to
abate hazards through the work order process.
