HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02051985 - 2.3 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra FROM: Contra Costa Hazardous Waste Task Force Costa DATE: February 1 , 1985 County SUBJECT: Household Hazardous Waste Awareness Day SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATIONS: 1 . Agree--. to sponsor a Household Hazardous Waste Awareness Day at two sites in the County on Saturday, April 13, 1985. 2. Refer to the Public Works Director and County Counsel for report to the Board the request of the Task Force that they be allowed to use the parking lot at the Richmond County building, 100 - 37th Street, Richmond, as the west County site for the Household Hazardous Waste Awareness Day. 3. Refer to the Finance Committee for report to the Board the request of the Task Force that the Board provide funding, in an amount not to exceed $20,000, for the Household Hazardous Waste Awareness Day. 4. Refer to the Public Works Director, Planning Director, and County Counsel for report to the Board the request of the Task Force that the Contra Costa Community Recycling Center be authorized to use their facilities as the Central/East County site for the Household Hazardous Waste Awareness Day. 5. Order the Health Services Director, or his designee, to contact hazardous waste transportation companies and disposal sites to determine their willingness to transport and dispose of the hazardous wastes collected during the Household Hazardous Waste Awareness Day at a reduced cost, or at no cost, as a public service and report his findings to the Finance Committee. BACKGROUND: The Board has previously approved in concept a Household Hazardous Waste Awareness Day to be conducted April 13, 1985. Ad.diti.onal '-de tails have now been decided on which require action by the Board. The attached report from the Public Awareness Day Sub- committee was approved by the Contra Costa Hazardous Waste Task Force on January 28, 1985 with the request that it be forwarded to the Board for their consideration. Supervisor Fanden suggested that financial assistance be solicited from the Chambers of Commerce, the cities, and the Contra Costa Mayors' Conference; she also suggested that the schools participate in the prcgran. There being no further discussion, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the five recarmiendations set forth above are APPROVED. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the County Adninistrator is to make available a desk and telephone for use by Kathleen Nimr for the Awareness Day Project.
