HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06222010 - C.53RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and Authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Sherman Quinlan), to execute, on behalf of the County, Grant Agreement #28-759-4 (TEA17-09-3) with California Department of Resources Recycle and Recovery (CalRecycle) to pay the County an amount not to exceed $318,783, for the Environmental Health Waste Tire Enforcement Program, for the period from June 30, 2010 through September 30, 2011. FISCAL IMPACT: Approval of this grant agreement will result in an amount not to exceed $318,783 of funding from the CalRecycle, for the Environmental Health Waste Tire Enforcement Program, for the period from June 30, 2010 through September 30, 2011. No County funds required. BACKGROUND: California has more registered vehicles than any other state. As a result, approximately 40.2 million reusable and waste tires are generated each year. About 1.5 million waste tires are already stockpiled throughout the state, posing a health and safety risk for the public. With this funding, CCC will be able to monitor and reduce illegal waste tire practices, educate and enforce proper waste tire management throughout the county, assist in reducing potential vector problems and preventing tires fires and otherwise protecting public health and safety. On March 23, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved submission of application #28-759-3 with California Department of Resources Recycle and Recovery (CalRecycle). Approval of Grant Agreement #28-759-4 will allow Cal Recycle to pay the County to support the Environmental Health Waste Tire Enforcement Program through September 30, 2011, including agreeing to indemnify and hold the State harmless for claims arising out of the County’s performance under the Agreement.
