HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06222010 - C.51RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or designee, to execute a contract with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) to pay the County an amount not to exceed $23,997 to perform eradication of the Japanese Dodder agricultural pest, for the period July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. FISCAL IMPACT: This action will result in new revenue for the Department. BACKGROUND: Japanese Dodder (Cuscuta japonica) has been declared a serious exotic plant pest by CDFA. State law mandates eradication action against this pest. Japanes Dodder is a parasitic plant pest that has the potential to seriously harm agriculture, ornamental plantings, and native plants in riparian areas. The only effective eradication involves complete removal of infested plant material, which is then either burned or buried at a landfill.
