APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Clerk-Recorder, or designee, to execute a contract to
accept Federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Section 261 grant funding, authorized by
the Secretary of State, in the amount of $5,000 for HAVA Polling Place Accessibility
Training and related labor and equipment, including equipment to improve accessibility at
polling places, for the period March 16, 2010 through December 31, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
A County match is not required for this grant.
BACKGROUND:
The Voting Access for Individuals with Disabilities (VOTE) Grant Program was issued by
the Secretary of State in accordance with the requirements of Title II, Subtitle D, Part 2
Section 261 of the Help America Vote Act (42 U.S.C. 15461). This grant was previously
entitled Elections Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities (EAID).
Accepting the grant will allow the County to be reimbursed for sending staff to training on
how to assess polling place accessibility. The grant will also provided needed funds to

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The County will not be reimbursed for the expense of sending staff to Polling Place
Accessibility Training or for the purchase of additional equipment needed to improve the
accessibility of polling places.
