Approve naming the new Respite Interim Housing facility the Philip Dorn Respite Center in
memory of the late Philip Dorn, a former resident of Contra Costa County Adult Interim
Housing Shelter Program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None. There is no fiscal impact in naming the site.
BACKGROUND:
The new 24-bed Respite Center is proposed to be named in memory of Mr. Philip Dorn. Mr.
Dorn, who died on November 18, 2008, entered the adult emergency shelter on November
17, 2007, after three months of prior continuous outreach. Philip typified the type of
individual client that the adult interim housing shelters serve every day. Completely
alienated from all systems of care, case management services resulted in the establishment
of a medical home, followed by placement into permanent supportive housing. He also
developed close relationships with other clients and touched the hearts of the shelter staff.
He passed away at a skilled nursing facility after having

is the Homeless Program’s honor to recommend naming the facility the Philip Dorn Respite
Center.
