PRESENTATION of Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) Growing Smarter
Together award to the County for the Contra Costa Centre Transit Village.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa Centre Transit Village successfully implements a Specific Plan for
mixed-use, transit-oriented development in an infill setting. By combining appropriate land
uses and a diversity of transportation modes, Contra Costa Centre has unparallel
accessibility for BART patrons, residents and employees.
The Contra Costa Centre Transit Village is also an excellent example of how the tool of
redevelopment can be used in partnership with private investment to achieve the public
policy objectives of jobs-housing balance, transit/land use connections, affordable housing,
and value-capture by public agencies. By partnering with the private sector and with BART,
Contra Costa County has achieved an example for the Bay Area to follow as it moves

25 years, underscores the value of long term planning and implementation, political
commitment and community based planning techniques.
The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) recognized these values by awarding
the County its 2010 Growing Smarter Together Award in the category of "On the
Ground--Getting it Done".
