APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in
the amount of $3,000 from First 5 Contra Costa Children and Families Commission to
provide books for preschoolers at the Hercules Library for the period July 1, 2010 through
June 30, 2011.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No library fund match.
BACKGROUND:
The Hercules Library is requesting grant funds from First 5 Contra Costa in order to
purchase children’s board books and encourage their use among young families. The new
collection would attract new families to the library by providing an up-to-date, well
maintained collection of book appropriate for children aged 0 to five years. New books
serve as an incentive for parents to read to their children and helps promote school
readiness.

collection of books will increase the Library’s ability to offer culturally relevant materials.
Library Staff will select books that are age appropriate and relevant to bilingual children.
