HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04272010 - C.31RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and enter into an agreement with First 5 Contra Costa Children and Families Commission to accept a grant in the amount of $5,000 to fund a baby and toddler activity area at the San Pablo Library. FISCAL IMPACT: No library fund match. BACKGROUND: Children prepare to read long before they enter school, and young children need a variety of skills to become readers and achieve success in school. By providing books and a welcoming, baby and toddler-friendly environment with a variety of educational experiences, the library can assist parents in helping their children develop early literacy skills. The San Pablo Library will use the First 5 Family-Friendly Community Grant to create a new space dedicated to babies and toddlers. The section will feature expanded English, Spanish, and bilingual board book collections, an inviting book display with a child-sized wooden “truck” bookshelf, an “activity cube” kinesthetic learning toy designed to develop motor skills in young children.
