ADOPT Resolution No. 2010/231 abolishing certain positions in the Contra Costa County
Fire Protection District (Attachment A) effective close of business May 7, 2010, as
recommended by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District's Interim Chief.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual savings is estimated at $600,000 and the current year savings at $75,000. These
savings will be achieved in the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District operating fund.
BACKGROUND:
A review of the District's continuing financial difficulties caused by the down turn in the
economy has necessitated reduced staffing. The District has reviewed current work loads,
staffing models, and allocated resources within the District. This review has shown that it is
necessary to significantly reduce expenses.
In an attempt to begin to address these budget issues, the District is recommending

which will realize approximately $600,000 annually. These positions include: two
Clerk-Experienced (one vacant and one filled); one Fire Training Captain (filled); one
Fire Maintenance Worker (filled), and four Fire Prevention Specialists (filled). These
positions are also listed in "Attachment A" to Resolution No. 2010/231.
