Approve and Authorize the Conservation and Development Director, or designee, to
purchase miscellaneous gift prizes in an amount not to exceed $650, as prizes for the 2010
Census Poster Contest winners.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No County General Funds. All poster prizes will be funded by a census grant received from
the State.
BACKGROUND:
To promote the 2010 census in schools, the county’s Complete Count Committee launched
a countywide poster contest open to all K-12 students in Contra Costa schools. The goal of
the contest was to raise awareness of the importance of the census – that it is safe, easy and
important – and that everyone must be counted.
The county received several entries and we are now ready to award prizes to winners in
each of the following grade categories: K-2; Grades 3-5; Grades 6-8; Grades 9-12. The
following prizes will need to be purchased:

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this request is not approved, the county will not be able to meet the terms of the published
poster contest.
