HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04132010 - C.53RECOMMENDATION(S):
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in
the amount of $1,000 from ConocoPhillips to supplement funding for Rodeo Library open
hours for 2009/10.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact.
BACKGROUND:
The County currently funds 18 hours of library service at the Rodeo Library, and the Rodeo
Municipal Advisory Council (RMAC) funds six additional hours of library service through
the Good Neighbor Agreement, which allows the Library to open two evenings, and two
additional hours on Saturdays. At its November 2009 meeting, RMAC approved $10,000
towards the library's request for $16,460. The RMAC Board requested that staff seek
additional funding from community organizations and return at the April RMAC meeting to
request the balance of funds needed for the remainder of the year. The grant from
ConocoPhillips will fund the additional hours from February 7 through February 28, 2010.

Subject:APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian to Accept a Grant of $1,000 from ConocoPhillips
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Possible reduction in library service to the Rodeo community. The additional hours of
library service provides Rodeo residents more opportunities to make use of the educational
and recreational resources available in the Library.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
This grant supports the community outcome of Communities that are Safe and Provide a
High Quality of Life for Children and Families. Many Rodeo residents are only able to use
the Rodeo Library in the evening or on weekends due to transportation difficulties and/or
age (particularly children and teens who cannot yet drive). The Rodeo Library is an
important part of the community's civic life, offering such activities as book discussion
groups, movie discussion groups, and literacy programs for parents with small children.
