FISCAL IMPACT: $100,000; Budgeted. 100% State restricted front line law enforcement funding. BACKGROUND: The State's fiscal year 2009/10 budget continues the program authorized by the Local Law Enforcement Supplemental Funding Act (AB 3229) by appropriating restricted Vehicle License Fee (VLF) funds for three separate programs, which the County has made preliminary funding projections of the following: 1) $220,515 to the Sheriff for jail operations and/or maintenance; 2) $220,515 to the District Attorney for criminal prosecution; and 3) $2,100,000 allocated County to Unincorporated law enforcement and city police departments (of this amount, $100,000 is projected to APPROVE OTHER RECOMMENDATION OF CNTY ADMINISTRATOR RECOMMENDATION OF BOARD COMMITTEE Action of Board On: 03/23/2010 APPROVED AS RECOMMENDED OTHER Clerks Notes: VOTE OF SUPERVISORS AYE:John Gioia, District I Supervisor Gayle B. The three County programs referred to above have been included in the adopted final County budget for fiscal year 2009/10 at the 2008/09 level. Government Code Section 30061(c)(1) requires that the Board of Supervisors hold a public hearing to consider the Sheriff's proposed use the estimated $100,000 County Unincorporated share of front line law enforcement funds. Recall that fiscal year 1996/97 was the first year of AB 3229 front line law enforcement funding, and the Board approved the Sheriff's proposal to establish the law enforcement Air Support unit. As indicated in the attached memorandum, the Sheriff requests that funds available for the current fiscal year continue to be used to the support the Air Support Unit.
