HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03232010 - C.115RECOMMENDATION(S):
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent to execute a purchase order, on behalf
of the Sheriff-Coroner, with Applied Biosystems in an amount not to exceed $127,500 for
equipment validation and training services, as recommended by the Sheriff-Coroner.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$127,500; 100% 2008 U.S. Department of Justice, DNA Backlog Reduction grant. CFDA
No. 16.743
BACKGROUND:
The scientific equipment in the Forensic Services Division of the Office of the Sheriff
requires excessive staff time and training to validate and maintain. Using an outside vendor
for these services allows for a more comprehensive and expeditiously performed validation
process while allowing internal staff to continue their normal lab functions. Training is also
provided to enable a smooth transition to new DNA technology. Additionally, a revenue
generating reduction in backlog cases is expected. This purchase will be funded by the
Department of Justice DNA Backlog Reduction Grant.
