Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf
of the County, Agreement #26-338-13 with American Red Cross Blood Services, a
non-profit Corporation, to provide total blood and blood component products and associated
services as needed for patients at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in an amount
not to exceed $90,000 for the period from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% funded by Enterprise I Funds. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As
appropriate, patients and/or third-party payors will be billed for services.
BACKGROUND:
On January 8, 2008, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-338-10 (as amended
by Contract Amendment Agreements #26-338-11 and 26-338-12) with American Red Cross
Blood Services, for the period from January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2009, to provide
total blood and blood component products and associated services as needed for patients at
the Contra Costa Regional

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Medical Center. Due to lengthy negotiations between the parties, the agreement was not
completed in a timely manner. Contractor services were requested and provided in good
faith.
Approval of Agreement #26-338-13 will allow Contractor to continue to provide blood
testing/screening services, through December 31, 2012, including mutual indemnification to
hold harmless both parties for any claims arising out of the performance of this Agreement.
