Lango, General Services Director Date:March 23, 2010 Contra Costa County Subject:Amendment No. 1 to Consultant Services Agreement for the Labor Delivery Room Project, 2500 Alhambra Ave., Martinez for the Health Services Department BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) monitoring) to a labor delivery room in the hospital's perinatal unit. Adjacent to the project area is a nurse's station that is currently not being used. HSD has requested that this unused area be converted to a labor delivery triage room. Currently, the perinatal unit has no labor delivery triage room. A labor delivery triage room will provide a means to isolate contagious patients. KMD is providing architectural and engineering services for the project, which originally did not include the labor delivery triage room. Additional architectural and engineering services are necessary to design the conversion of the nurse's station into a labor delivery triage room. The proposed amendment is necessary to cover the expense of these additional architectural and engineering services. The amendment would also revise the contract completion date to June 30, 2011. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Contra Costa Regional Medical Center is converting an existing antepartum room into a labor delivery room to help relieve a shortage of labor delivery rooms. This amendment provides an opportunity to convert an adjacent unused nurse's station into a labor delivery triage room. By not converting the nurse's station, the hospital will have an unused room that could be used for patient services.
