ADOPT Resolution No. 2010/154 approving and authorizing the County Probation Officer,
or designee, to apply for and accept a grant from the Department of Justice, Office of
Justice Programs, and Bureau of Justice Assistance in an amount not to exceed $250,000 for
the planning and implementation of Mental Health programming for the Girl's in Motion
Program for the period October 2, 2010 through September 30, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$250,000; 80 % Federal funds, 20% County match (cash or in-kind) for 24 months. CFDA
No. 16.745
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this program is to expand mental health and substance abuse services to girls
while housed in the Girl's in Motion Program. Girl's in Motion is a secure program for girls
who have been committed by the Superior Court and is housed in the Juvenile Hall.
Programming provided in this new program includes Girl's Circle, Aggression Replacement
Therapy, Life Skills, Street Law and other cognitive and trauma based programs designed
for girls. This grant will

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
promote and provide mental health co-occurring treatment and transitional services for
those girls committed to the program through Contra Costa County Mental Health. Girls
identified to receive services must be diagnosed as having mental illness, or mental
illness and substance abuse issues, and have faced criminal charges for misdemeanor or
nonviolent offenses. This grant will fund an already existing relationship between
Probation and Mental Health and support treatment and transition for girls.
