APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Director, or designee, to
accept funding from Chevron, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $1,750 to support Head Start
program services at the Department's Las Deltas Childcare Center in Richmond, California.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% private funding.
No County match.
BACKGROUND:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau has received
$1,750 from Chevron Inc. to support Head Start program services at the Department's
childcare site, Las Deltas Children's Center, located at 135 West Grove Street in Richmond,
California.
The Las Deltas site supervisor recognized the growing need of families served by this
childcare center for basic necessities such as clothing and food. The supervisor contacted
Chevron

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Inc. to make inquiry regarding assistance programs available through Chevron. Her inquiry
resulted in the Chevron Inc. donation of $1,750 which was then utilized by the program to
support Head Start wrap around services. Children and families, residing primarily in North
Richmond and served by Las Deltas childcare center, received basic needs support from this
funding.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports
three of Contra Costa County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and
Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and,
Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These outcomes are achieved
by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education,
nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
