APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Department Director, or
designee, to APPLY for and ACCEPT funding from Kaiser Permanente, Northern
California Region, East Bay Area in an amount not to exceed $25,000 for a nutrition grant
during the term July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% private grant funding
No County match
BACKGROUND:
The Department's Community Services Bureau is applying for funding from Kaiser
Permanente, Northern California Region, East Bay Area for a Cooking Health Every Way
(CHEW) project to provide cooking demonstration and nutrition classes to parents. Classes
to be provided to families receiving services from childcare centers in West Contra Costa
County.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports
three of Contra Costa County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and
Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and,
Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These outcomes are achieved
by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education,
nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
