ADOPT Resolution No. 2010/136 designating the Contra Costa County Agricultural
Commissioner's office as the local public agency responsible for conducting Contra Costa
County's Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter/Pierce's Disease Control Program.
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner to execute a contract
amendment with the California Department of Food and Agriculture to reimburse all costs
associated with the Glassy-winged Sharpshooter (GWSS), detection survey and control
program, for the period July1, 2010 through June 30, 2013.
FIND that Pierce's Disease and its vectors are a clear and present danger to Contra Costa
County's agricultural commodities; and
AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner to summarily abate this nuisance pursuant to
Contra Costa County Ordinance Code section 14-6.406 and Government Code section 8558.

Subject:Designate the CCC Agricultural Commissioner's office responsible for conducting CCC Glassy-Winged
Sharpshooter/Pierce's Disease Control Program
FISCAL IMPACT:
This action provides reimbursement from the California Department of Food and
Agriculture for departmental expenses incurred during the agreement period for the
implementation of the Pierce's Disease Control Program. The program will not involve a
net County cost.
BACKGROUND:
The County Department of Agriculture deploys traps, inspects incoming nursery
shipments, landscaping and host crops countywide to detect incipient infestations of
GWSS. Any population of GWSS detected is delimited and controlled or eradicated. The
California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), reimburses the County for all
costs involved in this program.
