Authorize the Librarian, or designee, to accept a donation of $100,000 for the opening day
collection for the new Walnut Creek Library.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The donation will provide $100,000 for the purchase of books and other material for the
new Walnut Creek Library.
BACKGROUND:
The Friends of the Walnut Creek Library have a long history of supporting quality library
service in the Walnut Creek community and beyond. A membership organization of over
300 individuals and families, the Friends have been heavily involved in all phases of
planning for the new Walnut Creek Library. The Walnut Creek Library Foundation took the
primary fundraising role in the successful $5 million capital campaign, while the Friends of
the Walnut Creek Library took on the task of raising funds for the opening day collection.
These funds were primarily raised from the sale of used books through the Friend's
