APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to purchase one
additional vehicle for the Health Services Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Health Services Department is purchasing a wheelchair accessible van for an estimated
purchase cost of $40,000. The purchase will be made using grant funds awarded by Kaiser
Permanente.
BACKGROUND:
The Health Services Department Homeless Program is purchasing a wheelchair accessible
van to be used by various Adult and Youth Homeless Programs including the new 24 bed
respite program located in Concord. The primary use of the van will be to transport
homeless individuals who are non-ambulatory to medical appointments, homeless court,
and benefits/services appointments. Kaiser Permanente has awarded the Homeless Program
a grant for the new respite program that included the purchase of a wheelchair accessible
van.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If purchase of the wheelchair accessible van is not approved, the Homeless Program will
need to rent a vehicle to transport non-ambulatory individuals. In addition, the Health
Services Department will need to obtain approval from the granting agency to use the grant
for another purpose or return the grant money.
