APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept $500 in
grant funds from the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation for the 2010 Children's Summer
Reading Program at the San Pablo Library for the period of January 1, 2010 through
September 30, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No matching funds are required.
BACKGROUND:
A $500 grant from the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation would purchase paperback books
to be used as incentive prizes for the 2010 Children's Summer Reading Program at the San
Pablo Library, a library service designed to address the critical need to improve the reading
readiness skills and the reading skills of children from birth through grade 6.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Fewer incentives to encourage participation in the Summer Reading Program in this
community.
