HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02022010 - C.25RECOMMENDATION(S): Adopt Position Resolution No. 2010/82 to adjust the salary step of the incumbent in the classification of Public Works Chief of Administrative Services (APDF) to the 7th step of the salary schedule salary level B82 1894 ($7,180-$9,191) effective December 10, 2009 as recommended by the Assistant County Administrator-Director of Human Resources. FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact to the General Fund. The costs associated with this action are approximately $7,686 annually. The Public Works Chief of Administrative Services position was created and offset by the cancellation of two vacant funded positions which resulted in a cost savings for FY 09-10 for the Public Works Department. BACKGROUND: The incumbent was recently promoted to Public Works Chief of Administrative Services (APDF). Under the Salary Regulations, Section 4:4.1 Salary - On Promotion, an employee is entitled to at least a 5% salary increase; only the main pay steps are taken into consideration for placement upon promotion. As a result, the incumbent was placed at the 5th step of the Public Works Chief of Administrative Services classification resulting in a 5% pay reduction. Based upon the incumbent's qualifications, the County Administrator and Human Resources Department staffs concur that Ms. Quever should be appointed at the 7th step of the salary range and retroactive to the effective date of appointment, December 10, 2009. The mechanism to accomplish the 7th step appointment is this resolution. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this resolution is not approved, the Department of Public Works will not be able to compensate Ms. Quever appropiately and she will be subject to a 5% pay reduction for what is considered a promotional appointment.
