SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Chairwoman to execute amendment as follows:
Number: 26-023-25
Department: Health Services - Hospital and Clinic Division
Contractor: Veterans Administration Medical Center
Effective Date of- Amendment: January 1, 1985
Extension of Term: From December 31, 1984 through March 31, 1985
Payment Limit Increase: $20,000 (From $100,000 to a new total
payment limit of $120,000)
Funding: Enterprise Fund (Cost Centers 6359 and 6360)
Service: Specialized medical resources: Nuclear medicine studies, specialized
laboratory tests, and neurology consultation and EEG interpretation.
BACKGROUND
For many years the County has maintained a contractual relationship with the Martinez
Veterans Administration Medical Center which has provided specialized laboratory testing
services for County Hospital patients. The County Hospital does not have the resources,
equipment, or personnel to provide these services to its patients.
The most current contract for nuclear medicine studies, laboratory tests, neurological
services and EEG interpretation (Contract #26-023-24, approved by the Board on
March 13, 1984) expired on December 31, 1984. This amendment will provide for extension
of the services at the same rate schedule through March 31, 1985. The services provided
under this Contract are billable to patients and appropriate third party payors.
Agreements with the Veterans Administration have routinely been executed after the effec-
tive dates of the agreements because all of their contract negotiations, agreements, and
correspondence must be routed through federal government authorities in Washington, D.C.
Their contract documents are then forwarded to the Health Services Department through the
local V.A. Medical Center. The Health Services Department wishes to extend last year's
contract for 90 days as the federal General Services Administration has not yet made a
decision on updating the current fees for a new contract.
This document has been approved by the Department's Contracts and Grants Administrator in
accordance with the guidelines approved by the Board's Order of December 1, 1981
(Guidelines for contract preparation and processing, Health Services Department).
