HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 01192010 - C.21RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE Appropriation Adjustment No. 5040 authorizing new revenue in the Sheriff's Office (0362) in the amount of $730,859 from the 2007 Super Urban Area Security Initiative (SUASI), with the City and County of San Francisco as the fiscal agent, for participation in regional homeland security efforts. FISCAL IMPACT: This action increases revenue and appropriations by $730,859. CFDA No. 97.008. BACKGROUND: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security identified 35 urban areas for targeted homeland security efforts throughout the country through the Urban Area Security Initiative Grant Program (UASI). UASI funds address the unique planning, equipment, training, and exercise needs of high threat, high density urban areas, and assist them in building an enhanced and sustainable capacity to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism. The Office of the Sheriff has been participating with the other nine Bay Area counties, the cities of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose, and with the California Emergency Management Agency (CalEMA) as part of the Bay Area SUASI. The targeted Super UASI (SUASI) homeland security funding for the County is to develop inter-operable communications between the County and other Bay Area SUASI members, and to perform information sharing and collaboration and citizen preparedness.
