BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
available and therefore driving up the cost. This project provides assistance to local agencies for long-term
investigations, which don’t have the resources to investigate. CALMMET continues to identify clandestine
laboratories and suppliers of the chemicals and precursors necessary to produce methamphetamine.
CALMMET benefits the entire community, as it supplements existing law enforcement and prosecution efforts by
attacking high-level drug traffickers who would not normally be addressed due to lack of resources. This project
reduces the manufacturing ability, availability and usage of methamphetamine in Contra Costa County by making it
difficult for major drug dealers, traffickers and manufacturers to operate. The revenue provides funding for a
full-time deputy and extensive specialized training and equipment for the Sheriff’s participation in the program.
