and accept funding from California Department of Education, in an amount not to exceed $249,000 for facilities
renovation and repair of various County childcare sites during the term July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2013. (No
County match)

BACKGROUND:
The Department submitted a funding application to California Department of Education (CDE) on December 14,
2009 to seek funding for one-time expenditures for facility renovations and repairs at selected childcare sites.
The following sites are targetted for this funding:
Balboa Children's Center 1101 South 57th Street, Richmond

Approval of this board order will allow the receipt of funding to be utilized in the above repairs, which will benefit
children and families enrolled in the childcare programs.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports three of Contra Costa
County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families
that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These
outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education,
nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
