FISCAL IMPACT: No net County costs. BACKGROUND: The Forensic Services Division of the Office of the Sheriff has numerous obsolete pieces of trace evidence instrumentation and accessories, which are no longer effective or necessary to the Sheriff's Forensic operations. The majority of these instruments are up to ten years old, and may have been originally purchased with special revenues such as federal grants. All items have completed their useful life, are fully depreciated, and are currently in storage. The surplus and disposal of this equipment would be cumbersome and costly to the County.
