HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12012009 - C.89RECOMMENDATION(S):
Increase the size of the Women's Commission from 9 to 25 commissioners.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None. No General Fund revenues are provided to the Women's Commission.
BACKGROUND:
On November 3, 2009, the Board of Supervisors approved on Consent the recommendation
of the Internal Operations Committee to restructure the Contra Costa Commission for
Women (the Commission) to a smaller size from 26 members to 9 members, through
attrition. However, the Commission currently has 15 active members and has 5 applicants
that are set to be recommended to the Board of Supervisors for approval in December 2009.
In addition, the Commission expects to be at capacity by Spring 2010. Furthermore, the
extensive work of the Commission from organizing the Annual Hall of Fame Event to their
research and advocacy work on domestic violence and girl-on-girl violence, makes it vital
that the Commission has enough members to be able to complete its mission:
