APPROVE Appropriation and Revenue Adjustment No. 5018 to authorize new revenue in
the amount of $1,939,957 from 2007 U.S. Department of Justice Community Oriented
Policing Services Grant Program for regional communications interoperability upgrades and
equipment for the period of September 1, 2007 through August 31, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This action increases revenue and appropriations by $1,939,957. There is no change in net
county cost. (CFDA #16.710)
BACKGROUND:
California is home to five Urban Area Security Initiative partnerships as required by the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The San Francisco Bay Area Super Urban Area
Security Initiative (SUASI) partners applied for U.S. Department of Justice Community
Oriented Policing Services grant funds for regional communications interoperability
upgrades and equipment. The Bay Area SUASI, for which the City and County of San
Francisco is the fiscal agent, received a total of $7,645,314. The Office of the Sheriff has
been participating with the other nine Bay Area counties,

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
the cities of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose, and as part of the Bay Area SUASI.
The targeted funding for the County is to continue interoperable communications efforts
between the County and other Bay Area SUASI members to ensure coordinated, mutual,
and rapid response in times of natural or man-made emergency.
