The County currently funds 18 hours of library service at the Rodeo Library. If granted, the

Subject:APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian to Apply for and Accept Fiscal Year 2009/2010 Grant Funds
From the East Bay Community Foundation
Funding to extend library hours during the balance of the fiscal year, February 7, 2010
through June 30, 2010, will be requested in the next grant cycle.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
Extending hours at the Rodeo Library will meet all five community outcomes established in
the Children's Report Card. Research shows that early and positive experiences with books
set the stage for a child’s success in learning to read. The availability of books from an early
age is critical to that success and growing up with books creates a life-long love of reading.
Therefore, public libraries play an important role in a community. They equalize access to
books, making sure all families are able to help their children enjoy reading from an early
age. Extending hours at the Rodeo Library will draw more families to the library and
encourage regular exposure to reading and books.
