APPROVE Appropriations Adjustment No. 5129 authorizing the transfer of appropriations
in the amount of $6,720 from the Office of the Sheriff (0255) to General Services, Fleet
Operations (0063) for the purchase of a prisoner transport vehicle for the Office of the
Sheriff-Custody Services Bureau.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This action increases appropriations in General Services, Fleet Operations (0063) and
reduces appropriations in Office of the Sheriff (0255) by $6,720.
BACKGROUND:
The Sheriff's Office requests to procure a purpose built transport vehicle capable of
transporting up to 27 prisoners, including two wheelchair users. The requested vehicle will
triple the capacity of existing single transport vans and will allow the Sheriff's Office to
transport medium size prisoner groups without resorting to the use of a 40 passenger bus.
Additionally, the new transport vehicle will take the place of three existing prisoner
transport vans and,

as such, may be expected to lower total fuel costs and consumption.
The purpose built vehicle will also offer additional security and features three separate
transport "cells". The purpose built vehicle is modular in design and will allow reuse on a
different cab and chassis should the existing chassis become unserviceable.
