BACKGROUND:
On June 23, 2009, the Board of Supervisors authorized the formation of a P-6 Citizen
Advisory Committee for Zones 500, 501, 502, 503 and 504 within the Discovery Bay area
to make reports and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on extended police
protection services which shall include, but not limited to, enforcement of the State Vehicle
Code where authorized by law, crime prevention, and litter control.
The Board directed that the members of the Citizen Advisory Committee shall be appointed
by the Board of Supervisors upon recommendation of the District Supervisor. The Advisory
Committee shall consist of five (5) members who reside within the P-6 Discovery Bay
Zones 500-504, with no more than two appointees residing within any one Zone.
The Board specified that the terms for seats shall be staggered and will expire every 2 years
ending December 31st. Initially, seats 1, 3, and 5 will expire December 31, 2011 and seats 2
and 4 will expire December 31, 2012. Once the initial term of these seats expires, appointees
shall serve the normal office term of every 2 years ending December 31st. Members shall
serve no more than two consecutive full terms. Once a time lapse of six months has
occurred, the resident will then have the opportunity to reapply for the seat.
The Board requested the Office of the Sheriff to provide staff support to the new committee,
including meeting scheduling and noticing, and attendance at meetings.
The Board acknowledged that the District III Supervisor's Office may provide staff time and
office resources to the P-6 Citizen Advisory Committee for Zones 500-504 as requested by
the P-6 Citizen Advisory Committee for Zones 500-504.
