APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract,
including a provision for mutual indemnification, with West Contra Costa Unified School
District, to pay the County an amount not to exceed $193,321 to provide one School
Resource Officer for the period April 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% West Contra Costa Unified School District revenue; Budgeted.
BACKGROUND:
The Office of the Sheriff will provide a School Resource Officer (SRO) to the West Contra
Costa Unified School District who will provide security between Juan Crespi Middle School
and North Campus High School. The presence of a School Resource Officer will assist the
school staff in maintaining safety, order and discipline within the school’s campus. The
officer will monitor the social and cultural environment to identify emerging youth gangs
and provide early intervention strategies coordinated with the Sheriff’s Investigative
Division, participate in school-based community organization meetings, and exchange
information with school principals about current crime trends, problem areas and other areas
