The intent of the funding is to complete much needed improvements to childcare facilities. Similarly, the California Department of Education provided funding to the County for childcare centers through its Facilities Renovation and Repairs grant. The Department is passing through a portion of the funds to its childcare partners with facility improvement needs. On August 4, 2009 the Board approved a contract with First Baptist Church of Pittsburg, California for the Center to provide Head Start program enhancement, State Preschool and Pre-kindergarten literacy services. This board order seeks to amend the contract to include facility renovation and repairs for purchase of play structures and replacement of cushioned play areas. 38-906-6 CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The Community Services Bureau of the Employment & Human Services Department’s Head Start program supports three of Contra Costa County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
