HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09152009 - C.76RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Haven Fearn), to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #24–429–45 with Ujima Family Recovery Services, a non-profit corporation, in an amount not to exceed $1,486,657, to provide perinatal substance abuse treatment services, for the period from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 92% by Federal Perinatal Set-Aside and Medi-Cal, 8% by State Substance Abuse/Mental Health Services for CalWORKs (SAMHWorks) and Drug Medi-Cal. BACKGROUND: This Contract meets the social needs of County’s population by providing family-centered alcohol and drug treatment services to pregnant and parenting women, in order to prevent perinatal substance abuse and improve birth outcomes. Approval of Contract #24–429–45 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through June 30, 2010. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This Alcohol and Drug Abuse program supports the Board of Supervisors’ “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing” community outcome by providing parenting education, stability, and safety for mothers (and their children) and pregnant women who are alcohol and drug dependent, while they are in substance abuse treatment. Expected outcomes include delivery of drug-free babies, decreased use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, reduction in the number of relapses, and creation of a sober social network.
