Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee (Wendel Brunner,
M.D.), to execute, on behalf of the County, Interagency Agreement #28-704-7 (#10-033)
with First 5 Contra Costa Children and Families Commission, to pay the County an amount
not to exceed $242,050 for the Tobacco Education Project “Promoting Smoke Free
Families”, for the period from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Approval of this Agreement will result in $242,050 from the Contra Costa Children and
Families Commission for the Tobacco Education Project. No County funds are required.
BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa Children & Families Commission, in collaboration with the County's
Family, Maternal and Child Health Programs will coordinate and administer the Tobacco
Education Project to support healthy home and community environments free of tobacco
smoke and substance abuse by family members. This Project will

coordinate existing tobacco cessation efforts and develop collaborative countywide efforts
to reduce environmental tobacco smoke exposure among children, ages 0-5.
On August 19, 2008, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #28-704-6 with First 5
Contra Costa Children & Families Commission, for the period from July 1, 2008 through
June 30, 2009. Approval of this Agreement #28-704-7 will allow the County to continue the
Tobacco Education Project, through June 30, 2010.
