APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Probation Officer, or designee, to apply for and
accept the Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) Support Project grant from the
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation-Corrections Standards Authority in
an amount not to exceed $100,000 to continue the research and implementation of
evidence-based programming to address DMC issues in the County for the period July 1,
2009 through June 30, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$100,000; 100% Federal (CFDA# 16.540). No County match is required.
BACKGROUND:
Since 2005, Contra Costa County, has made a priority issue of addressing Disproportionate
Minority Contact (DMC) in its Juvenile Justice System. DMC refers to the over
representation of youth of color who come into contact with the juvenile justice system.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
DMC, our jurisdiction has actively engaged stakeholders from multiple government
agencies and community providers to partner in this important endeavor.
Throughout this process the Probation Department has played a leadership role in
understanding and reducing DMC in our jurisdiction. Funding from the CSA through the
DMC Support Project will enhance our ability to continue this important and necessary
work.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
None.
