BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
the exercise stress treadmill are positive, firefighters are put on limited duty or taken off
work reducing CCCFPD’s workforce. Firefighters with positive stress treadmill results with
this contract in place will now immediately go to Contra Costa Imaging Center to have a CT
of the heart without contrast material for quantitative evaluation of coronary calcium, which
will allow for immediate determination of the firefighter’s fitness for duty. If the calcium
score is >100, firefighters will then undergo a coronary artery CT angiography to determine
the firefighter’s fitness for duty. Since these tests will be performed immediately upon a
positive stress treadmill there will be a reduction in the time necessary for diagnosis of
coronary problems effecting fitness for duty and reduction in limited duty time for
firefighters.
On June 24, 2008, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #22-952-1 with John Muir
Magnetic Imaging Center, dba Contra Costa Imaging Center for the period April 24, 2008
through June 30, 2009, to provide CT calcium evaluations and coronary artery CT
angiography for firefighters who have been referred by County’s Vista Oaks Occupational
Medicine Clinic.
Approval of Contract #22 952-2 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services,
through June 30, 2010, including mutual indemnification to hold harmless both parties for
any claims arising out of performance of this contract.
