SUBJECT: Resolution In Support of the Proposed 754ed Medical Facility By the
Kaiser Foundation Hospitals in Downtown Richmond
WHEREAS, the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals has announced plans for a major medical
facility in Downtown Richmond, to include a 75-bed hospital and multi-level parking
structure; and
WHEREAS, the existing, aging Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center at 1330 Cutting
Blvd. , in Richmond offers limited services and inadequate facilities, clearly suggest-
ing the need for a modern, full service, state-of-the-art medical facility, consistent
with the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals ' outstanding and irrefutable reputation for
providing member patients the very best in medical and health-care related services; and
WHEREAS, the County of Contra Costa and the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals have
enjoyed a long and distinguished history of working together in a spirit of cooperation
and with a sense of dedication .to address the health and social needs of area
residents and member patients ; and
WHEREAS, the construction of the proposed medical facility in Downtown Richmond
would result in increased employment opportunities, providing jobs for the area's
unemployed, including members of this city's large minority community; and
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Board of Supervisors of Contra
Costa County that the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals is reconsidering its plans to
contract the proposed medical facility in Downtown Richmond;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County is in support of and encourages the following;
1. That plans proceed as previously announced to construct a 75-bed hospital
and multi-level parking facility in Downtown Richmond,
2. The willingness of the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County to meet
and work with the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals to explore all options to
assure the best opportunity for plans for the medical facility to proceed
as originally scheduled,
3. That the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals maintain its. reputation of providing
member patients the very best in medical facilities, hospital care. and the
delivery of health-,care related support services,
