HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08042009 - C.74RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Haven Fearn), to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #24–513–39 with New Connections, a non-profit corporation, in an amount not to exceed $437,531, to provide substance abuse prevention, intervention and treatment services, for the period from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 89% by Federal Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment (SAPT) Block Grant and 11% by State Drug Court Implementation funds. BACKGROUND: This Contract meets the social needs of County’s population by providing specialized substance abuse treatment and prevention programs so that addicted youth are provided an opportunity to prevent or recover from the effects of alcohol or other drug use, become self sufficient, and return to their families as productive individuals. Approval of Contract #24–513–39 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through June 30, 2010. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This Alcohol and Drug Abuse prevention and treatment program supports the Board of Supervisors’ “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing” and “Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families” community outcomes by providing individual, group, and family counseling; substance abuse education; rehabilitation support services; and substance abuse prevention services. Expected outcomes include increased knowledge about the impact of addiction; decreased use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; increased use of community-based resources; and increased school and community support for youth and parents in recovery.
