Subject:Grant Agreement #28-759-2 with California Integrated Waste Management Board
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) is dedicated to finding new
uses for these valuable resources, and to work in cooperation with local governments, such
as Contra Costa County (CCC), industries, and the public towards reaching their goals. With
this funding, CCC will be able to monitor and reduce illegal waste tire practices, educate
and enforce proper waste tire management throughout the county, assist in reducing
potential vector problems and preventing tires fires and otherwise protecting public health
and safety. On December 16, 2008, the Board of Supervisors approved submission of
application #28-759-1 with CIWMB.
Approval of Grant Agreement #28-759-2 will allow CWIMB to pay the County to support
the Environmental Health Waste Tire Enforcement Program through June 30, 2010,
including agreeing to indemnify and hold the State harmless for claims arising out of the
County’s performance under the Agreement.
