APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to execute a contract
amendment with Pacific States Environmental Contractors, Inc., effective March 8, 2009, to
extend the Contract term from March 8, 2009 through May 31, 2009, and to increase the
payment limit by $5,569.76 to a new payment limit of $258,835.14, for abatement and
demolition of 1700 Oak Park Boulevard project, Pleasant Hill area.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no impact to the County General Funds. Project will be funded by 100% Special
Revenue Funds.
BACKGROUND:
On November 18, 2008, the Board approved the original contract with Pacific States
Environmental Contractors, Inc. in the amount of $214,075 for the demolition and
abatement of 1700 Oak Park Boulevard in Pleasant Hill. On January 27, 2009, a change
order was executed, extending the contract term to March 8, 2009 and increasing the total
payment limit of the contract to $253,256.24, in order to pay for additional repairs related to
asbestos pipes that were discovered

during demolition. It has further been determined that the contractor should, as part of the
demolition and abatement service it provides under the contract, provide utility protection
for the water line on the site, which will result in additional costs of $5,569.76. Given
this added work, the contractor requires additional time to complete its work pursuant to
the contract.
