HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07212009 - C.86RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Auditor-Controller to issue payments on behalf of Health Services Director or his designee (Wendel Brunner, M.D.) in the amount not to exceed $1,300 for the period of October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009, for incentives such as food vouchers, gift cards, and giveaways (i.e. measuring cups, portion control plates, timers) for the Community Wellness and Prevention Program’s NEW Kids Project. FISCAL IMPACT: None. 100% of these funds are from a Grant Agreement with the Los Medanos Health Care District. BACKGROUND: The NEW Kids Project is a collaboration with Los Medanos Health Care District, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and other Health Services Divisions that address the epidemic of childhood obesity and its impact to low-income residents in Pittsburg and Bay Point, where a greater proportion of the children are overweight. The goal of the program is to reduce childhood obesity and its health consequences and to educate the public on healthful nutrition and physical activity practices to reduce risk for chronic disease. Approval of this Board Order will allow the Community Wellness and Prevention Program to purchase $3,300.00 in incentives such as food vouchers, gift cards and giveaways (i.e. measuring cups, timers) for Kids Project recipients. Items include: Gift Cards - $500.00 Measuring Cups - $130.00 Kitchen Timers - $40.00 Sports Equipment - $550.00
