APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee,
to execute a contract amendment with Brighter Beginnings, a non-profit corporation, to
increase the payment limit by $27,665 to a new payment limit of $404,909 for increase in
Cal Learn program services, for the period June 1, 2009 through June 30, 2009.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% CalWORKs single allocation.
BACKGROUND:
The Cal-Learn Program provides assistance to pregnant and parenting teens enabling them
to remain in school and obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent. Brighter Beginnings
will provide case management services to Cal-Learn Program participants referred by the
Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD). Services will include
comprehensive case management, educational assessments, counseling, mentoring,
parenting assessments, child development skills training, and the identification of ancillary
services such as child care and transportation. Support will also be given to assist the
participants in the transition to independent living upon obtaining their high school diploma

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
This contract supports all five of the community outcomes established in the Children’s
