HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07212009 - C.66RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee (Wendel Brunner, M.D.), to accept, an award (County #29-393-11), from the State of California, Tuberculosis Control Branch, to pay the County, an amount not to exceed $310,449, for the period from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009, for the Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program. FISCAL IMPACT: Acceptance of this Award will result in a total of $310,449 for FY 2008-2009 from the State of California, Tuberculosis Control Branch for fiscal year 2008-2009. No County funds are required. BACKGROUND: The Contra Costa County, Public Health Department maintains a TB Control Program, which serves all reported TB patients and their contacts in Contra Costa County. Outreach services are provided to reach the “Hard-to Reach” people with TB and those at high risk. Acceptance of this Award will allow the Department to: (1) continue to expand prevention and control activities, and (2) improve completion of appropriate therapy which is essential to decrease TB transmission, prevent the development of drug resistance, and cure TB patients, through June 30, 2009. The total award of $310,449 includes a base grant of $280,681 and an additional allotment of $29,768 to be used for food, incentives, shelter and enablers, which are used to support clients diagnosed with TB. The program will use these funds to purchase the following: Safeway - 425 gifts cards each with a $20 value for a total of $8,500 Lucky's - 275 gift cards each with a $20 value for a total of $5,500 Target - 350 gift cards each with a $20 value for a total of $7,000 Rent Subsidies - Terrace Motel as needed for a total of $7,010.00 Sun Ridge Apartments rent subsidies as needed for a total of $1,758
