of the FEMA are essential to providing adequate emergency housing and supportive
services to individuals. If funded at the full request, FEMA will help to support over 1800
bed nights at the year-round adult shelters and over 800 bed nights at the youth shelter. No
additional County funds required.
BACKGROUND:
Adult Interim Housing Program: There is continuing concern about the lack of emergency
shelter services for homeless men and women. With over 600 calls per month from men and
women needing shelter, it is critical that we maintain services at their current levels. FEMA
funds would be instrumental in helping us accomplish that goal.
Calli House: Emergency Shelter for Youth: The County homeless Program opened the first
homeless shelter for youth of its kind in April 2002. Since that time, the youth shelter
program has served over 500 youth ages fourteen (14) to twenty-one (21). Youth over the
age of eighteen (18) reside at the West County Adult Interim Housing Program and receive
case management and other services during the day at Calli House. Calli House provides a
youth-friendly environment with age-specific case management and other supportive
services aimed at assisting the youth to exit the streets.
